Installing Spd Cleats On Shoes

I just ordered a pair of SH-RT82 shoes and a pair of PD-M520 pedals. Shoes fit great, pedals look great and came with the two SPD cleats and screws. Only problem is, the nut plates that go in the shoes are nowhere to be found! I've looked under the shoe insoles, through all the shoe wrapping paper, and all over the packaging it came in. Are these nut plates typically shipped loose in the box? I didn't realize I should have ordered these parts separately! Bummed out I can't ride home with my new gear tonight :(
